Kaystaff is Hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the engineering team of top tech company in New York at a pivotal moment in their growth. They're past 0‑to‑1 and firmly in the 1‑to‑10 phase – the product works, the market fit is proven, and the challenge now is building systems and a team that can scale with serious momentum. As a member of our early‑stage startup, you'll have the opportunity to shape the direction of the company and make a meaningful impact on our success.

What You'll Do

• Own and drive complex technical projects end‑to‑end, from architecture through implementation to production.

• Design and scale highly reliable, secure, and performant systems to support Tabs' AI‑driven workflows.

• Partner closely with our CTO, VP of Engineering, and Head of Product to align engineering efforts with company priorities – and push back when you disagree.

• Contribute meaningfully to one or more of our seven engineering teams: AI/ML, billing & payments, commercial graph, ERP, revenue, front end, or platform. We're open on where you focus based on where your strengths and interests lie.

• Mentor and support other engineers, helping to raise the bar on technical excellence and best practices.

• Help build the culture and foundation of Tabs' engineering organisation – the kind of environment where senior engineers can still learn a lot.

Requirements

• 7–15 years of experience as a software engineer building complex products at early‑stage B2B/AI startups (ideally in the fintech domain)

• Demonstrated track record at B2B/AI startups in the 1‑to‑10 phase (Series A–C), or a larger organization with a team known for strong engineering talent

• Prior fintech experience at AI‑native startups (e.g., Ramp, Brex, Rippling) is a plus

• Strong, well‑formed opinions on product and architecture direction

• Comfortable standing by those opinions and constructively disagreeing with leadership

Education

• Solid foundation in CS fundamentals — algorithms, data structures, distributed systems
